“Upper Crust Bakery stands with our colleagues in manufacturing and workplaces across the country to mourn the loss of workers on the job site. One loss is too many and as employers, we have a collective obligation to set the conditions so that every single employee has a healthy, safe environment.
At Upper Crust, we have experienced loss in the past year. Last October one of our employees died in a vehicular accident outside of our loading dock. Our hearts go out to his family and we take this important day to mourn him and affirm our commitment to safety and vigilance on the job site. We want to lead the way for safer practices across the country and have canvassed the market to implement tougher standards for all of our suppliers including temporary employment agencies.
On this day in particular, it’s important that we recommit to a culture of safety on behalf of our workers and for the future of our industry. I know our employees, partners and customers will join me in dedicating this important day to those who have lost their lives due to a work-related tragedy and sending our thoughts and prayers to their surviving loved ones. Their lives have been changed irreversibly, but we can use their experiences to evolve and grow as responsible, safe employers.”
